IT Facilities
Outstanding facilities, support and services to enhance your learning.
You'll have access to a wide range of IT services to support your learning. Computer rooms, many of which are accessible 24/7, are available across campus with over 3,000 networked computers, and of course free Wi-Fi is widely available across campus. There's also a laptop loan scheme for use within the library.
You'll be able to install Office 365 Professional Plus on your own PC, Mac or mobile device for free and attend mobile laptop clinics if you need help connecting to WiFi and the University network.
Mobile apps help you find the nearest available PC, view your timetable and access various services.
You can publish your own web pages and blogs using the University web hosting service.
Virtual Learning Environment
The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Canvas provides:
- 24/7 access to reading lists and course handouts
- online discussions with tutors and fellow students
- access to ReCap, our lecture and event-recording service
ReCap service
Audio and visual material from lectures is published online to a ReCap service, this service:
- allows you to review material after your lecture
- gives you a better understanding of complex topics
- helps with your revision
- helps people with dyslexia and for non-native English speakers
Support and guidance
When you register at Newcastle you'll receive a login, e-mail account and filestore on the University's IT network. You'll receive plenty of support and guidance on how to make the most of our IT facilities from the IT Service (NUIT). We provide:
- staffed Help Desks in main computer clusters
- telephone and email helpline for further assistance
- network connection clinics
- learning technologists
