Applications Through UCAS

All applications for undergraduate degrees are made online through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Here’s a brief overview of how you apply to us through UCAS.

1. Register with UCAS

Once you’ve done your research and decided which courses you want to apply to, register to use the UCAS Hub.

Your school or college may have a UCAS buzzword, which you'll need to add when you register on UCAS Hub. This makes it clear which school or college you are applying from.

If you are applying independently, or are applying from a school or college which is not registered to manage applications, you will still use the UCAS Hub. You will not need a buzzword.

2. Start your application

The online application system usually opens in September for entry to university the following year. You can complete your application in stages and return to it at a later date to edit it, as long as it’s before the application deadline.

3. What to include in your application

Your application should include:

  1. Your personal details and qualifications.
  2. Course choices – you can choose up to 5 (if you choose fewer you can add extra ones later, as long as you do so before the deadline). You'll need the UCAS codes for Newcastle University if you're applying to us. You can see these below.
  3. personal statement – this is where you can stand out from other applicants, so you should start thinking about this early. There’s a useful tool on the UCAS website to help you write this.
  4. A reference from a teacher, adviser or professional who knows you academically.

You may get support with writing your application from a teacher or careers adviser.

4. Deadline to apply

For most courses, you should submit your application by 29 January 2025 if you’re applying to start university in 2025 or to defer your entry until the following year.

For Medicine and Dentistry, the deadline is 15 October 2024 for 2025 entry.

6. Applying through Clearing

If you haven't already secured a place at university by August 2025, you can also apply to Newcastle University through Clearing. This may be because you just missed the terms of an offer or you didn't apply by the UCAS deadline.

During Clearing, all universities with spaces available on their degree courses advertise these vacancies – usually on their websites and on the UCAS website.
