Funding your Teacher Training
Find out about the financial support available for teacher training in the UK.
Funding for teacher training
The funding available for teacher training depends on a number of factors:
- which teacher training route you take
- the subject and key stage you want to teach
- your degree classification
- where in the UK you live
- your own personal circumstances
Funding in England
Bursaries and scholarships are available for some subjects. The amount depends on the subject you choose to teach. Larger amounts are available for subjects where there is a shortage of trainee teachers such as maths and sciences.
You may also be eligible for Student Finance to fund your tuition fees and living costs.
If you teach maths, chemistry, physics or languages, you could be eligible for an early career payment of between £2,000 and £5,000. This could be in addition to a bursary or scholarship. See the GOV.UK website for more information.
If you teach biology, chemistry, physics, computing or languages you might be able to claim money back for student loan payments. See the GOV.UK website for participating local authorities.
Funding in Wales and Scotland
In Scotland funding may be available for tuition fees through the Student Awards Agency Scotland.
In Wales you may be entitled to student finance to help cover training programme fees and living costs.
