Student Ambassadors
Inspire young people whilst representing and promoting Newcastle University.
Your responsibilities
We have an outstanding and committed team of Student Ambassadors. The role is to support a wide range of recruitment activities and events throughout the year, both on and off campus. You will have the opportunity to develop important transferable skills such as:
- working at the University Open Days and Offer Holder Experience Days
- leading campus and accommodation tours
- taking part in on-campus events for local school/college students/prospective postgraduate students
- developing recruitment-related publicity and marketing information e.g. blogging, social media posts etc.
- developing resources for recruitment activities, including subject-specific material
- representing the University at a range of off-campus higher education recruitment events
- delivering presentations/activities in local schools/colleges/postgraduate recruitment events
- supporting event preparation and office work
Occasionally you may need to work at weekends and in the evenings, which might involve overnight stays. The University covers your expenses and accommodation costs for this work.

We're particularly keen to hear from applicants who can relate to or have experience in supporting students linked to our PARTNERS Programme. This includes care experienced students or black heritage students. The UK Recruitment Team offers extra support to these students during the next stages of the application. Student Ambassador job description 2024/25
Salary: minimum of £13.45 per hour

We are excited to be recruiting for a number of Student Ambassadors to engage with prospective applicants about the Newcastle University student experience. To do this you will have opportunities to support on a range of recruitment and aspiration-raising events and activities. You should be a current Newcastle University undergraduate or postgraduate student.
The work is extremely flexible – you can sign up to as much or as little as you like.
We have a variety of work that falls under the Student Ambassador role and you will be able to express your preferences on the application form.
Shifts could include but not exclusively:
- working at the University Open Days and Offer Holder Experience Days
- leading campus and accommodation tours
- taking part in on-campus events for local school/college students/prospective postgraduate students
- leading ice breaker activities in breakout rooms for online events
- developing recruitment-related publicity and marketing information e.g. blogging, social media posts etc.
- developing resources for recruitment activities, including subject-specific material
- representing the University at a range of off-campus higher education recruitment events
- delivering presentations/activities in local schools/colleges/postgraduate recruitment events
- supporting event preparation and office work
Occasionally work offered may be at weekends, in the evenings or involve overnight stays. Expenses and accommodation costs for this work are covered by the University.

Student Ambassadors will be required to receive an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosures and Barring Service if successful at assessment centre (the cost of your application will be met by the University).
If your application is successful, we will invite you to attend a compulsory training session on Thursday 7 November 2024. If you are unable to attend the training session, your application may not be taken further.

Depending on the type of Student Ambassador work you have expressed an interest in, shortlisting tests will be sent out via email week commencing 7th October. You may also be invited to an assessment centre on 22nd & 23rd October. This is role dependent.
All outcomes will be finalised by end the of October. Successful candidates are legally required to provide identification for Right to Work and those recruited for event support will also need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before attending the compulsory training session. Details on documents to be provided for a DBS check can be found here. Information on completing your Right to Work check will be shared with you if successful at shortlisting/interview.
