Head Start to Uni: Year 13 event

What is involved?

Head Start to Uni is an event for Year 13 students who have applied or about to apply to university. This year the event will take place on Friday 25 October, 09:30-3pm on the University Campus.

Attendees will take part in a student Q&A, two optional sessions and an optional campus tour. All sessions will take place within University teaching facilities.

Teachers can sign up to bring their school group, or students can sign up individually.

Guests attend a workshop of their choosing from the below:

  2. Looking after your Wellbeing: Navigating the ups and downs of the application journey

  2. Writing a Winning Personal Statement
14:00-15:00 Campus Tour Optional student-led tour of our campus, including the sports centre, library and students union.

Looking after your wellbeing: Navigating the ups and downs of the application journey

The university application journey can be daunting.

But our Student Health & Wellbeing Team are on hand to share top tips on managing your wellbeing, coping with exam stress, and building strategies to build resilience.

We will also cover some of the support available for students with disabilities, learning difficulties, and mental & physical health conditions at Newcastle University.

Writing a winning personal statement

Join our recent graduates to learn how to make your university personal statement stand out!

We will cover top tips on what to include, how to structure your skills and experience and even provide you with a handy guide to help you plan your own personal statement.

Interview preparation for Medicine and Dentistry

Applied to Medicine and Surgery or Dentistry?

This session will give you all the information you need to know and help you prepare for an interview at Newcastle. Hear from our staff, what we look for and how to enter the interview with confidence.

Delivered by a member staff from our Faculty of Medical Sciences.

If the event becomes oversubscribed we may allocate places on Head Start to Uni using our PARTNERS criteria. The more criteria an applicant meets, the more likely you are to be offered a place on Head Start to Uni.
