I am positioned within the School of Modern Languages' Professional Services team and work within the Level 6 School Office. I previously studied within the School for my own undergraduate degree and worked as the YA Assistant for Japan during this time.
As the previous receptionist to the School, I am well-versed on all aspects of the degree programmes that we provide and can provide guidance and support on making module choices that align with our Degree Programme Regulations. I have also been responsible for the administration of the University-Wide Language Programme as the UWLP Support Officer, where I provided advice and guidance to students and staff on all aspects of the programme, including registration, timetabling, staffing and withdrawals. I also provided ancillary support to the Year Abroad team.
In my current position as Postgraduate Officer, I am the main point of contact for all postgraduate-related matters in the School of Modern Languages. I provide support to both students on our Taught and Research programmes throughout the full student lifecycle.
Qualifications
- MLitt Linguistics, Newcastle University
- BA (Hons) Modern Languages, Translating & Interpreting (French and Japanese), Newcastle University
My research focussed on varying aspects of politeness within the Japanese language.
My Master's dissertation title was The Complexities of Hierarchy and Distance: Examining methodological concerns in Japanese politeness research. In this, I investigated whether sociolinguistic or discourse factors were most at play when determining a Japanese L1 speaker's use of humble forms (kenjougo).
I was supervised by Prof. Karen P. Corrigan and Dr Rebecca Woods, both of Newcastle University's School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics.
