Newcastle University Retired Staff Association (NURSA) is an active network in our alumni community, holding regular social events and lectures by guest speakers throughout the year.
Their next event 'Supporting student mental health and wellbeing - an important priority for all universities' will be held on campus on Wednesday 29 January (online viewing also available).
The area of student mental health continues to be both a concern and a priority for many. Ensuring that students have support for their mental wellbeing, so that they can thrive and succeed during their time at university, is a necessary requirement for all higher education institutions.
Student health and wellbeing support at Newcastle University
Newcastle University has recently topped the National Student Survey results for student awareness of wellbeing services, a vital step in ensuring that students can access appropriate and necessary support when they need it.
Adding to this success, the creator of the Student Health and Wellbeing Service (SHWS) impact measurement scale system, Kirsty Hutchinson (Manager for the counselling and welfare service) has recently been awarded the Mental Health in Education Award for 'Embedding Student Mental Health Across the Institution'. This prestigious award is made by the University Mental Health Adviser Network, a national UK charity which is the largest network of mental health professional working in education.
Join Sally Ingram MBE (Director of Student Health and Wellbeing Services at Newcastle University) and Kate Aitchison (Head of Student Health and Wellbeing) to find out more about this and other key projects, their importance within the University and the wider sector, and how it all fits in with the national University Mental Health Charter.
