It's mission is to tackle educational inequality by providing place-based programmes, meaning that centres are located in communities where young people are least likely to attend university and most likely to experience socioeconomic disadvantage.
The latest development in the growth of IntoUniversity Newcastle comes with a new five-year pledge from Raymond James, Monument. This wealth management office, launched in June 2023, has quickly established a reputation for delivering personalised financial services to a growing client base. But from the start, the team behind Raymond James, Monument was clear on one of their core objectives: giving back to the local community.
Raymond James Monument’s Support
By partnering with Newcastle University to support IntoUniversity, Raymond James, Monument is making a long-term commitment to help address educational inequality. Their support will enable the Newcastle East Centre to provide essential services to over 1,000 students annually. The financial backing will ensure the centre’s programmes remain robust and accessible, creating life-changing opportunities for local young people.
“By supporting this centre, we can help transform the lives and aspirations of over 1,000 students annually,” said James Carrick (Chartered Wealth Manager) of Raymond James, Monument.
Gary Fawcett (Branch Principal) added, “Our pledge aims to help address educational disparities and empower underprivileged young people across Newcastle with four key impacts: local impact, long-term commitment, social mobility, and measurable outcomes. Around 60% of students who use IntoUniversity go on to apprenticeships, degrees, or higher education of some sort, that theyotherwise wouldn’t have done, which is an amazing result.”
IntoUniversity and Newcastle University
In 2021, national education charity IntoUniversity, Newcastle University and Northumbria University jointly launched the IntoUniversity Newcastle East Centre, which focuses on delivering support through a four-strand model: workshops, academic support, mentoring, and additional activities like internships and work experience.
The centre serves as a critical resource for local students from the age of 7, all the way until they are 18, providing them with the support needed to gain both the academic and non-academic skills needed to reach their full potential.
