Creative engagement by 3rd year Architecture and Urban Planning students on Clayton Street
Clay Day was a playful and festive engagement day intended to deepen the understanding and research on Clayton Street
17 May 2023
Clay Day took place on Thursday 11 May between 11.30am - 3.30pm. The focus of the event was to gain an understanding of the value of Clayton Street for those who use the street as well as the potential for the street to become a destination. The intervention will seek to appreciate how social enterprise or social hub can expand or broaden the Newcastle City Council Cultural Creative Zone regeneration project with a view to include a wide section of the population who live, work in the area as well as visit or shop in Grainger Market.
We were delighted with the outstanding levels of engagement on Clayton Street with 3rd year students in Architecture and Urban Planning (AUP). A deep understanding of the street (its value and issues) has been unearthed by a wider variety of people who live, work and walk the street on a regular basis. This creative engagement will be compiled and shared with Newcastle City Council to inform the CCZ project.
