After a break in study visits being hosted overseas, year two planning students were able to once again travel to Germany as part of their study visit module this academic year. 17 students attended the study visit accompanied by tutors Clive Davies and Neil Powe. The visit was focused in the region of North Rhine Westphalia and trips were made to Düsseldorf, Essen and Gelsenkirchen (Gelsenkirchen is Newcastle’s twin city).
Clive and Neil had arranged for local guides at various destinations and are grateful for their contributions. The students were greatly welcomed by local hosts and visited the government offices of North Rhine Westphalia, the Zollverein World Heritage Site and the Science Centre in Gelsenkirchen which was built as part of the international building exhibition.
At Gelsenkirchen City Hall (pictured below) the group met the mayor and had a presentation on the Council’s planning strategy.
