Parenting Scheme

The School runs a Parenting Scheme to help Stage 1 students settle into University life. The scheme is a great opportunity to gain experience and develop a range of key skills.

This includes:

  • communication and presentation skills
  • organisation and time planning skills
  • working with people from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

Parent support

The parent will work with a small group of Stage 1 students.

This will involve helping students when they need:

  • support
  • someone to listen
  • someone to discuss their options with where appropriate
  • knowledge about where to get specialist advice and help

Parents will receive thorough training and you'll receive a certificate. Your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) will also record your participation.

Skills

The skills required to be a parent are:

  • empathy
  • respect for others
  • a commitment to helping others
  • the ability to interact with a variety of people
  • willingness to accept standards of ethical conduct such as confidentiality
  • good organisation skills

Students in their second and third year of University are welcome to apply to become a parent. You can make friends from around the world and develop your skills.

If you're interested in becoming a parent please contact steph.patterson@ncl.ac.uk for further details.

Degree regulations

Degree regulations provide programme information about your study by setting out the regulatory framework that governs them.

Regulations for each programme are on the University's regulations and general information webpages.

School moderation and scaling policy

All assessed work is subject to moderation of its marking. This SAPL Moderation and Scaling Policy provides important information. You should also keep in mind the University's regulations and policy of moderation and scaling.
