This includes:
- communication and presentation skills
- organisation and time planning skills
- working with people from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
Parent support
The parent will work with a small group of Stage 1 students.
This will involve helping students when they need:
- support
- someone to listen
- someone to discuss their options with where appropriate
- knowledge about where to get specialist advice and help
Parents will receive thorough training and you'll receive a certificate. Your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) will also record your participation.
Skills
The skills required to be a parent are:
- empathy
- respect for others
- a commitment to helping others
- the ability to interact with a variety of people
- willingness to accept standards of ethical conduct such as confidentiality
- good organisation skills
Students in their second and third year of University are welcome to apply to become a parent. You can make friends from around the world and develop your skills.
If you're interested in becoming a parent please contact steph.patterson@ncl.ac.uk for further details.
