Student Life
We offer our students a variety of clubs and societies to join, helping you explore the area and enjoy student life.
Student Life and Societies
For both architecture and planning students, there are numerous student societies to join. For more information on our societies, visit the Students’ Union website to see how you can get involved.
Newcastle University Architecture Society
Newcastle University Architecture Society is the student-run representation body within the School. Representing just under 600 students, we provide opportunities that enhance our members' education and improve student life.
These opportunities include:
- skills workshops
- industry panel talks
- one-on-one support
For many students, the society acts as the heart of the School, bringing together all students, staff and practitioners in a casual environment. Every year we work to host a variety of events aimed to break up academic teaching. These include:
- International trips
- Socials
- Our annual Summer Ball
Newcastle University Planning Society
Through a mixture of social-led events and day trips, we aim to enhance a sense of community for students involved in the planning programme. As for outside the academic teaching period, we hope they'll engage in additional activities.
The society hosts a combination of both formal and informal events, including social evenings and talks from various town planners. These talks help further your understanding of life as a planner and where your degree could take you.
Other than this, it's a great opportunity for students to socialise and get to know people within their course, away from study environments.
Professional organisations
Many of our degrees offer a professionally accredited route to qualification. Some organisations have local branches and organise events which students are welcome at.
Adding to your degree
The ncl+ initiative ensures students gain valuable and transferable skills outside their degree. It brings groups together offering unique opportunities and experiences that will boost your employability, and enhance your degree. Find out more about ncl+.
Student Ambassadors
Through ncl+ you can apply to become a student ambassador. As an ambassador, you’ll support a wide range of recruitment and aspiration-raising activities. This is a paid position that is flexible to work around your studies. For more information please visit the ncl+ website.
