Athena Swan Awards and Action Plans

Newcastle holds a Silver Athena Swan award at University level and 13 departmental awards.

University award

The University has been successful in its application for an Athena Swan Institutional Silver award. This extends our Silver accreditation to Nov 2023.

The Dean of Diversity, Professor Judith Rankin, gave a presentation on Newcastle University and Athena SWAN at the Awards Ceremony in June 2016 and is available to download.

Departmental awards

The University currently holds 13 Athena Swan awards at either Bronze or Silver.

The Faculty of Medical Sciences holds a Silver Athena Swan award which covers 9 academic units:

  • the Biosciences (NUSI)
  • Translational and Clinical Research (NUTCRI)
  • Population and Health Sciences Institutes (NUPHSI)

The award also covers our Malaysian campus NUMed and the following Schools;

  • Biomedical
  • Nutritional and Sports sciences
  • Dentistry
  • Medical Education
  • Psychology and Pharmacy

The Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering holds several departmental Bronze Athena Swan awards in the Schools of:

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences holds 9 departmental Bronze Athena Swan awards in the Schools of:
