Great North Neonatal Biobank

The Great North Neonatal Biobank has a large collection of samples from pre-term or newborn babies with complex health needs.

The neonatal biobank is a resource of ‘salvaged’ specimens including stool, urine, blood (serum and cellular components), and other ‘waste’ samples from preterm and sick infants. We hope that these samples will help us improve the health of babies born preterm or sick. Our specific focus is on infection, bowel problems and longer term health outcomes, and we use a variety of new and advancing techniques designed to progress understanding and disease prevention and treatment.
