Information for Donors
Many areas of biomedicine, both within the academic and commercial sectors, are dependent on access to well characterised collections of human tissues.
Newcastle has many world renowned research groups. These groups use samples donated by patients and healthy volunteers for their research. Biobanking in Newcastle is one of the many reasons Newcastle has a reputation as a centre of excellence for research.
We keep the tissue we collect stored secure in Biobanks and issue it to researchers when required. We have a laboratory where we prepare samples for storage and analysis, and freezer rooms with alarm systems to make sure samples are kept at the correct temperature. We also have a sample tracking system to ensure the samples are looked after under Human Tissue Act regulations.
Further information about tissue donation is also available on the Human Tissue Authority Website.
