Calcium Imaging
Calcium regulates a wide range of physiological properties of cells. The movement of Calcium ions lead to a change in cells membrane potential, which is partly responsible for neuronal signals transmission. Calcium Imaging is an essential technique to evaluate the role of Calcium ions in functioning cells. The Calcium Imaging technique uses a fluorescent “dye” that responds to the binding of Ca+ ions and changes its fluorescent properties, allowing optical measurement of Calcium concentration shift within neurons and neuronal tissue. Thanks to Calcium Imaging, you can either measure individual cell or global neuronal network Calcium dynamics at a high resolution.
Calcium transients can be locally activated on selected cells (group of cells) via microelectrode as seen below or globally using a microfluidic platform with integrated heated perfusion system.
