Introduction

In 2018 I took up the role of Commercial Projects Team Manager.  The team is responsible for a wide range of commercial activities - including consultancy, facilities and equipment, commercial research, tenders and continuing professional development & life long learning (CPDLLL).

In addition, I also provide support in the management of the University's HEIF funding - which aims to further and expand the University's knowledge exchange activities.  I also provide support in the management of the Northern Accelerator Project - a collaborative project with the other North East Universities driving a step change in the commercialisation of research.

Background

Prior to joining the Newcastle University, I worked in the finance, legal and insurance industries for 10 years. 

I joined Newcastle University in 1996 and worked in the Finance Department for 9 years.  Initially I worked within the team responsible for the management of research funding and then within Management Accounts.  During my time in Finance I qualified as an Accountant.

In 2005 I became the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Manager.  KTPs transfer and embed new knowledge and capability within the company partner.  Working closely with companies and academics, I grew the University's KTP portfolio to in excess of 20 projects - top 10 in the UK.

From my time both within the University and prior to joining the University, my work has always had a strong commercial focus.
