Dr Luke Judd
Business Development Manager
Introduction
As a Business Development Manager in the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering my role is to support academic and research staff with the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property, spin out company formation and development of non-traditional funding sources (e.g. commercial research, Innovate-UK funding), .
I provide:
- advice on business development strategy and implementation
- assistance with development of non-traditional funding applications and bids
- support in identifying key company contacts and approaches
- commercial contract development including set-up, legal requirements and authorisation
- assistance with confidential disclosure agreements
- intellectual property services including prior art searches and filing, IP assessments and market reviews
The areas of expertise within the School of Engineering I look after include:
- Future Mobility
- Geotechnics and Structures
- Electrical Power
- Intelligent Sensing and Communications
- BioEngineering
- Design, Manufacture and Materials
- Fluid Dynamics and Thermal Systems
- Marine, Offshore and Subsea Technology
Background
I completed my PhD at the University of Bristol in supramolecular chemistry, researching into novel chloride receptors and transporters. After this I worked as a postdoctoral research assistant for Professor Anthony Davis (University of Bristol), where I was responsible for supervising undergraduate project students, new PhD students and Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) students.
I then worked for a start-up company researching into novel cross-linkable materials for use in organic light emitting diodes. This was a varied role and included research; project management, with projects spanning synthetic chemistry, optoelectronics and device physics; business development and intellectual property strategy.
Qualifications
- MChem (Hons), University of Southampton
