Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability

Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability (ERS) shape our identity and guide our education, research, and partnerships. We strive to create a more inclusive, responsible, and sustainable future for all.

Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability (ERS) form a distinctive part of:

  • who we are
  • what we do
  • how we approach society's most pressing challenges to create a better future for everyone

ERS guides our approach to education and research, and engagement with industry and the community.

Our aims and goals

We motivate our community to build a responsible, inclusive and just future for ourselves, business and society.

How we are meeting our goals

Research

Our ERS group comprises over 40 academic staff who lead international research in ERS fields.

Our research and scholarship focuses on positive societal impact. It adds value to many ERS-related areas of inquiry, including:

  • ethical marketing
  • sustainable accounting and reporting
  • sustainable supply chain management
  • corporate social responsibility in human resource management
  • social entrepreneurship
  • responsible innovation
  • digital transformations for the social good
  • economics related to the sustainable development goals

Teaching and learning

We offer degree programmes that include a progressive, expanding ERS curriculum.

Postgraduate

Three of our Master's programmes focus on sustainability. They are:

Sustainability Forum

Our Sustainability Forum is open to all students, staff and external partners. It delivers a year-long programme of extracurricular activities on cutting-edge topics in global sustainability.

We also run a growing number of volunteering initiatives, spearheaded by our Charity of the Year.

How will we meet our goals in the future?

We're working on several initiatives to help us continue to meet our goals in 2025 and beyond. We are looking to:

  • facilitate and support more ERS-related research collaborations with our partners. We do this via the Systemic Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability (SERS) Network
  • promote our ERS-related degree programmes, both nationally and internationally. We aim to increase student interest and industry support
  • strengthen our strategic partnerships with industry and community organisations. We do this through shared projects with high societal impact
  • improve our organisational practices, focusing on creating value for our stakeholders and communities
