Profile
As People Services Coordinator in Newcastle University Business School, my role is to manage, co-ordinate and monitor all HR work within the School. I work closely with the Head of Professional Services in the Business School as well as the People Services Team in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The work incorporates a wide range of HR advice, processes and transactional work, including recruitment, induction, contract changes, promotions and reward, leave and absence, and leavers.
I have worked at the University since 2006, specifically in HR roles since 2013. I have previously held roles in the SAgE and FMS People Services Teams.
Roles and responsibilities
My key roles and responsibilities are:
- To monitor and coordinate all of the HR work carried out in the School (including line management of the School's People Services Administrator).
- To provide an end to end HR administrative service to internal customers for the employee life cycle (e.g. Recruitment, induction, employee leave, contract renewal, promotions, visiting/guest status, termination).
- To work with Subject Group Heads to develop and maintain people plans for each area.
- To monitor and report on the annual PDR process.
- Using specialist knowledge and skills in relation to key HR processes, to offer advice and guidance to internal customers and to maintain effective two-way communication with HR Business Partner and Advisers.
- To manage the documentation in relation to Occupational Health Referrals and to report on progress/outcomes. Liaising with the Director of School/Head of Professional Services, Occupational Health and Subject Group Heads where appropriate. To monitor sickness absence and notify line managers of trigger points.
- To act as ‘super-user’ of key HR systems, including SAP and the e-recruitment system.
- To work closely with HR colleagues and the Head of Professional Services to develop and improve process effectiveness and efficiency, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and service excellence.
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and respect in all that we do, ensuring that services and systems are fair and accessible
- Contribute to the work of the wider School through involvement in project teams and contributing to policy development work.
