Dr Kautsar Ramli, FHEA is an academic with a blend of expertise in entrepreneurship and business management, complemented by her entrepreneurial background. She combines scholarly pursuits with practical insights. Her research focuses on the intersection of business management, entrepreneurship, and their implications for policy and practice. Kautsar collaborates extensively with renowned scholars to explore enterprise policy and culture, business resilience in times of crisis, and the social dimensions of entrepreneurship.
Kautsar currently holds the position of Lecturer in Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Newcastle University, United Kingdom. She completed her doctoral studies at The University of Leeds, where her achievements earned her the esteemed Dean's Prize in 2020. Prior to joining Newcastle University, Kautsar worked as a postdoctoral research associate at The University of Bristol. During this time, she contributed to The BAM Project, a transdisciplinary research initiative funded by UK Research and Innovation. The project brings together scholars from both Engineering and Business disciplines, along with over 300 industry leaders and government initiatives in the UK.
Kautsar also made significant contributions to The ERICC Project at The University of Edinburgh, where she conducted research on the impact of COVID-19 on high-growth firms in Britain. Her diverse experiences in leading UK universities have equipped her with valuable insights into the intersection of academia and industry.
Driven by a commitment to advancing knowledge in entrepreneurship and business management, Kautsar looks to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Through her research, teaching, and collaborations, she aims to provide practical solutions that have a meaningful societal impact. With her expertise, Kautsar aims to inspire and empower the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders.
Kautsar is an active member of the Academy of Management. She has been endorsed as an Exceptional Promise by The British Academy for her academic performance in 2021, and currently serves as an expert reviewer for the UKRI Talent Peer Review College in 2023, contributing her expertise to evaluating and assessing research proposals and talent in the academic community.
Kautsar also holds a position as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

Kautsar’s research areas encompass a diverse range of topics, including but not limited to:
- Entrepreneurship in emerging economies: Investigating the unique challenges and opportunities faced by entrepreneurs in developing regions, with a focus on fostering sustainable growth and innovation.
- Entrepreneurial resilience and crisis management: Exploring the strategies and factors that enable entrepreneurs to thrive in times of economic uncertainty and adversity, with an emphasis on crisis response and long-term sustainability.
- Enterprise policy and economic development: Analyzing the impact of policy frameworks on entrepreneurship and economic growth, and advocating for policies that support entrepreneurial ecosystems and inclusive development.
- Entrepreneurial culture and social impact: Examining the role of cultural dynamics in shaping entrepreneurial behavior and its broader societal implications, including the promotion of social equity and community empowerment.
- Interdisciplinary entrepreneurship: Integrating entrepreneurship within interdisciplinary domains such as engineering and medicine, to drive innovation and address complex challenges in these fields.
Kautsar is currently supervising PhD candidates and other postgraduate students, encompassing a range of academic disciplines.
