Dr Natalya Radko
Lecturer (Entrepreneurship & Innovation)
Dr Natalya Radko is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, as well as Research and Impact Lead for the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Subject Group, Newcastle University Business School, Newcastle University. She joined Newcastle University Business School in September 2023. Prior to joining NUBS, she worked at Lancaster University Management School, Lancaster University, UK, as well as Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK in research and teaching positions. Prior to coming to UK, Natalya worked in research and management positions in Kazakhstan.
Natalya’s research interests include exploring universities as a key stakeholder of the entrepreneurial society. Within this dimension she works on the following topics: entrepreneurial universities, academic entrepreneurship, knowledge transfer, entrepreneurial ecosystems, teaching entrepreneurship skills, developing entrepreneurship skills of students, creative entrepreneurship.
Natalya has participated in various research and institutional projects both as a research fellow and fund raiser. Recent examples include:
- Elements of a University Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Enabling Student Entrepreneurship: The Case of Newcastle University. The project is supported by the Newcastle University Business School internal fund as part of support for earlier career researchers. The project devoted to exploring the support for student entrepreneurship at Newcastle University.
- TARGETED-MPI - Transparent And Resilient Gender Equality Through Integrated Monitoring Planning and Implementation (Horizon 2020 project). The project is devoted to introducing institutional changes in Business and Management (B&M) Schools to drive more inclusive, sustainable and transparent academic cultures.
- Research England, Enhancing Research Culture Project is an initiative devoting to developing activities to "Enhance Research Culture" at the university in response to the government’s R&D People and Culture Strategy.
- Creative Spark: Higher Education Enterprise Programme is a five-year initiative (2018-2023) to support university and institutional partnerships to develop entrepreneurship and enterprise skills for students and young entrepreneurs across seven countries, including Kazakhstan. The Programme was funded by the British Council. Within this project I raised fund and led the project which twice (2 years) became a winner among 12 similar partnerships between UK and Kazakhstani universities with the best innovative start-up idea in the creative industry.
- Gender Economy - Open Economy Fellowship Programme. This project was devoted to promoting economic well-being and equality and was financially supported by Soros Fund Kazakhstan. The project aimed to establish first in the country (Kazakhstan) Gender Economic Research Centre. Within the project I raised funds and led the project and Centre within the first 6 months.

Main research interests
- Entrepreneurial universities: the organisational structures, entrepreneurial architecture, engagement of the entrepreneurial university with relevant actors to perform entrepreneurial mission, university knowledge and technology transfer.
- Academic Entrepreneurship: role of academics in performing university entrepreneurial mission; role of academics in creating value for the region and their engagement with the ecosystem around.
- Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: the ecosystem evolvement over time, role of universities in entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Dr Natalya Radko deploys her training from Babson College (Massachusetts, USA) to enhance students' experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate entrepreneurship and innovation modules. She has taught number of Entrepreneurship (and Management) modules.
