Leadership, Work and Organisation Research
The Leadership, Work and Organisation (LWO) subject group is dedicated to excellence in research and education across all areas of work, organisation, management and international business.
The Leadership, Work and Organisation subject group aims to:
- conduct world-leading, high quality academic research. We are concerned with the changing world of work and business. We consider this at all levels - from micro to macro - and from both individual and organisational perspectives
- work with stakeholders to implement changes. We look to make changes that create positive impact with significance and reach
- promote and develop an inclusive culture. This needs to support both research and scholarship. It should integrate academics across career stages, from postgraduate students to senior academics
Research themes
Our overarching themes are:

- social justice and the changing world of work
- responsible management of technologies
- resilient strategies and globalisation
- challenging theory and practice to achieve positive organisational change

Research communities
Our research communities bring together academics from diverse disciplines. Together, they explore the complexities of work, employment, and organisational management. Each community focuses on distinct themes. They contribute unique insights that drive theoretical advancements and practical applications in their respective fields.
External engagement and collaboration
We are committed to working with external stakeholders in pursuit of research that makes a real difference in the world of work.
We engage with stakeholders from the public, private and voluntary sectors. This includes:
- employers
- professional associations
- local and national government bodies
- national and international non-government organisations
