Fellowships
Fellowships
We're keen to attract post-doctoral fellows to come and work with us. Our aim is to support your research at all stages of your fellowship.
We provide you with a stimulating environment in which to conduct high-quality research.
Newcastle University
The Newcastle University Academic Track Fellowship scheme aims to find and develop our research leaders of the future. Five year positions with attractive incentives leading to a tenured position. Find out more.
Other Organisations
The following organisations offer fellowships for independent postdoctoral researchers to work in the UK:
- BBSRC
- NERC
- the Royal Society
- the Leverhulme Trust
- the Wellcome Trust
These fellowships are highly competitive. Successful applicants generally have between two and five years of postdoctoral experience.
EU Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship
The EU Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme may fund researchers from the EU to work in the UK fairly soon after the completion of their doctorates.
International fellowships
In addition, there are other international fellowship schemes supported by some organisations. For example, the Royal Society is supporting incoming fellows from Asia and USA.
Supporting women
Some fellowships are particularly aimed at supporting women in their research careers. For example, the Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Research fellowship scheme and the BBSRC Returners to Research fellowships. You will need to check the pages of each individual funder to find out which scheme(s) might be right for you.
How to apply
Given the competitive nature of these fellowships, it's important to contact a member of the Centre who will be able to support you in your application.
This will include ensuring that you will have access to the facilities that you need for your project, as well as helping you with your application.
Several CBE members have been involved in successful fellowship applications. They will be able to help and guide you.
