EnergyPlus and DesignBuilder Workshops

Hosted by CESI at Newcastle University London Campus in partnership with DesignBuilder Software and BigLadder Software, this three-day event provided two days of dedicated EnergyPlus training followed by one day of hands on experience of DesignBuilder.

EnergyPlus for Practitioners

This two-day workshop focused on the needs of the energy modeling practitioner to get up to speed and highly productive with EnergyPlus as quickly as possible, using demonstration and hands-on exercises throughout. The workshop included:

  • The fundamentals of EnergyPlus such as geometry and internal loads
  • Advanced topics such as HVAC systems and controls
  • Guidance on EnergyPlus syntax, input/output files, documentation, and essential software tools including the Euclid extension for SketchUp.

Using DesignBuilder to Maximise EnergyPlus Productivity

This one-day workshop showed how DesignBuilder can be used to significantly speed up the process of creating models to simulate using EnergyPlus. The workshop included:

  • Introduction to DesignBuilder
  • Quickly re-creating the EnergyPlus model: Geometric operations and efficient model data input
  • Running simulations
  • Exporting IDF data to modify outside DesignBuilder (EnergyPlus experience is recommended for this session)
  • Introduction to the DesignBuilder EMS
