A team from EPSRC National Centre for Energy Systems Integration (CESI) at Newcastle University has been commissioned to assist the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) in the development of the energy sector roadmap of research and innovation infrastructure.
The UKRI Research & Innovation Infrastructure Roadmap (UKRI RIIR) will:
- Inform future research and innovation infrastructure priorities
- Provide the groundwork to ensure UK remains a global leader in research and innovation
- Set out the essential infrastructure needed to reach this long-term vision
The roadmap includes resources and services used by researchers to carry out their work, both in the UK and key international facilities:
- Research facilities
- Laboratories
- Demonstrators
- Test beds
- Big data
CESI's Role
CESI’s role is to lead on consultation with industrial experts, leading academics, collating their ideas and suggestions to inform the scope of the research and innovation infrastructure roadmap for energy.
Our main focus will be to define the future needs for the UK energy system as a whole, including:
- nuclear
- renewables
- hydrogen
- conventional technologies
Laura Brown, Centre Manager, EPSRC National Centre for Energy Systems Integration said, "CESI are delighted to be assisting on this exciting national project identifying the UK energy research and innovation infrastructure needs for the future. The initiative provides a great opportunity for leading energy experts from government, industry and academia to inform future investment decisions."
