The Future of Electric VehiclesIn partnership with the Environmental Defense Fund Europe, the National Grid System Operator and the National Centre of Energy Systems Integration, the Women's Whole Energy Systems Research and Industry Network (Werin) hosted a stakeholder workshop at the Centre for Life, in Newcastle. The workshop discussed the future of electric vehicles in the United Kingdom.
In preparation for the passage of the Automated and Electric Vehicles Act, the publication of the Road to Zero Strategy, and the Zero Emissions Vehicle Summit, we invited stakeholders to share their insights with discussions exploring
- the barriers that remain for electric vehicles
- what policies might be introduced
- what technologies will emerge or dominate
- how charging can meet the needs of drivers and the energy system

Benefits of gender parity in preparing for the energy transitionIn March 2019, the Women's Whole Energy Systems Research and Industry Network (Werin) in partnership with Zero Carbon Futures, hosted a networking luncheon and sector panel discussion in Sunderland. The panel and the audience discussed the benefits of gender parity in preparing for the energy transition. With attendees from industry, academic and local government a wide-ranging debate was held.

- Dr Sara Walker, Newcastle University, Associate Director of the National Centre for Energy Systems Integration, Deputy Director of Supergen Energy Networks Hub and Director of Expertise for Infrastructure at Newcastle University’s School of Engineering,

Innovative approaches to deliver the energy transitionThe Women’s Whole Energy Systems Research and Industry Network (Werin) in partnership with Northern Gas Networks and Energy Leeds hosted a networking luncheon and sector panel discussion in Leeds in June 2019. The panel and audience discussed the innovative approaches needed to deliver a successful energy transition.
