Professor Damian Giaouris

Background

Damian Giaouris was born in Munich, Germany, in 1976. He received the:

  • BEng in Automation and Control Engineering from the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2000.
  • MSc in Automation and Control from Newcastle University, UK, in 2001.
  • PhD degree in the area of Control and Stability of Induction Machine Drives from Newcastle University in 2004.
  • BSc in Mathematics from the Open University, UK, in 2009.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Mathematics from the Open University, UK, in 2011.

He was a Lecturer in Control Systems at Newcastle University from 2004, before moving to the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, Greece, at the Chemical Process Engineering and Energy Resources Institute – The Laboratory of Process Systems Design and Implementation, in 2011. Since 2015, he has been with the Engineering School at Newcastle University where currently he is a Professor of Control of Energy Systems. 

He has served as an Associate Editor in IET Power Electronics and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II, he has been a Guest Editor at various journals and he has organised several conferences. He has more than 150 publications and 3000 citations.

He has been awarded multimillion EU and UK research funding.

His research interests include nonlinear dynamics of electrical systems, distributed energy systems, control of smart grids, electric vehicles and energy management
