Dr Rasha Ibrahim
Senior Lecturer
Rasha is a lecturer in Cybersecurity. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from University of York. Rasha is also a member of Digital Health and Assistive Technology Research and Innovation Hub (DHAT).
Dr Ibrahim comes from an academic and analytical background having been teaching for more than 9 years in the UK and abroad. She has also worked in industry for four years as a configuration analyst in Vodafone Telecommunications, an experience that helped shaping her research directions. She got inspired by the mobile technology and had her Masters in mobile communications in 2003. Her thesis was the first among Egyptian Universities to tackle the topic of Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) that was relatively new at that time.
Rasha was the President of York Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) for two consecutive years (2015-2017). Her job involved enhancing the experience of 4000 postgraduate students, and launching a number of projects that benefited York students from both academic and welfare perspectives. Rasha is currently a board trustee of York City of Sanctuary.
Research Interests:
Rasha's scholarly interests are in Ethical Hacking, Mobile Phishing, Human Factors in Security, Impact Assessment, Digital Health and Ethics in Cybersecurity Research. Rasha is a reviewer in the Springer Science and Engineering Ethics Journal and the ElSevier International Journal of Human-Computer Studies.
Research Projects:
2017-2020: Rasha was working as a senior research fellow in the European Union funded Project (MONICA). The project is concerned with improving the quality of life for citizens, visitors, and staff of large scale cultural events via the use of IoT technologies and wearable devices. Rasha's role in the project was related to impact Assessment. She has developed the framework against which MONICA impact and future progress could be evaluated, measured, and valued.

2019-2020: Before joining Newcastle University, Rasha was working on the Grow MedTech funded project; Virtual Physiotherapist. The project provides remote rehabilitation for stroke survivors using Artificial Intelligence.
