My time at Newcastle
Gaps between undergraduate and postgraduate study
Yes, before my postgraduate study I'd been working for 9 years.
Choosing Newcastle University
The School of Computing at Newcastle University offered the Computer Game Engineering course I wanted to study. Besides this, Newcastle University is one of the top universities in the UK.
Enjoyable studies
The computer lab has modern and powerful computers. This allowed us to test state-of-the-art technologies and work efficiently. The lecturers and the programme director (Mr Morgan) were all very enthusiastic.
Experience of the city
I lived in Leazes Terrace. The most enjoyable thing about living there is the beautiful and comfortable environment, especially the picturesque scene in Leazes Park and the lake. Leazes Terrace is well managed and I felt very safe living there.
Funding the course
As I had been working for 9 years, I was able to fund the course myself.
Career aspirations
I didn't enter the computer game industry after graduation. But due to a noticeable boost in my programming ability, I got a wonderful job in a famous IT company, International Business Machines. I guess the business probably wouldn't have hired me had I not studied at Newcastle University.
Advice for prospective postgraduate students
A few years of working in industry before starting your postgraduate study will benefit your studies more than you think. Also, preparing for your lessons before class will make your academic life much easier.
