The desk-based study looked broadly at the UK/English scene with the aim of reconsidering the terms of the debate by bringing together contemporary approaches and analyses of ageing and of rurality, and translating them into the context of remote coastal locations. The conclusions were presented to 'Coastal Futures', a symposium on coastal issues in July 2006.
