The Consequences of the 2001 Foot and Mouth Epidemic for the Rural Economy of Northumberland
This study used a variety of statistical information (from the Farm Business Survey, CRE's Microbusiness survey and data from other organisations) to show the impact of the foot and mouth disease outbreak on Northumberland.
- Project Dates: 2001 - 2002
- Project Leader: Philip Lowe
- Staff: Philip Lowe, Jeremy Phillipson, Jeremy Franks, Terry Carroll and Marian Raley
- Sponsors: Northumberland County Council
The study also investigated consumer responses to the Foot and Mouth Disease crisis and how it affected their perceptions of food and the countryside. The conclusions and recommendations of Northumberland County Council's 2001 'Agricultural Change and Rural Development in Northumberland' report were re-visited in light of the findings of this study.
