Research
Research
Synthetic biology is already making an impact in many areas.
The full potential of Synthetic biology will not be realised until many research challenges have been met. Synthetic biology research can be split broadly into three categories:
- new approaches, technologies and tools
- the application of synthetic biology
- the ethical, legal and social implications of synthetic biology
Synthetic biology is a developing field. We're active in all three of these categories.
Our research themes
We've established 10 themes that underpin Synthetic Biology research at Newcastle:
Research output
The groups in the Centre are involved in a range of projects. These are funded by a number of major research funders.
Our researchers produce software and data repository resources.
We encourage interdisciplinary collaboration. Our Research Seminars are a regular series of talks by Principal Investigators. They showcase current research and generate new ideas.
