Backup CURDS MA Programme
Taught
Our MA taught courses put you at the forefront of the ever-changing landscape of local and regional development. They equip you to take up roles that will help shape government policies and agendas.
Local and regional development is undergoing a period of unprecedented change. New debates are changing the nature of local and regional development processes, institutions and policies. These focus on:
- the knowledge economy
- globalisation
- competitiveness
- inclusion
- sustainability
- wellbeing
International trends are changing administrative and governance structures at the national, regional, sub-regional and local levels. These trends are towards:
- decentralisation
- regionalisation
- city-regionalism
- localism
Several factors have focused the minds of local and regional policy-makers, including the:
- global financial crisis
- economic downturn
- re-organisation of economic development and regeneration
These events are shaping their responses and building resilience in local and regional economies. These inter-related developments are generating new challenges.
There's more demand for analysis, strategy and policy-making for local and regional development. This is true for institutions in the public, private and voluntary and community sectors.
