Data Science Research
Using data to transform research across the university.
We are transforming data science research across the whole university. We achieve this by designing new methods for analysing data and applying them to real data to solve problems and generate new insights.
A particular strength is how we bring researchers together. Typically there are two types of researcher we bring together:
- methodological researchers, typically working in computing and statistics
- researchers from other areas who want to gain insights by applying those methods to the data they are collecting.
This benefits both types of researchers: applying novel data analysis methods can transform whole subject areas, while working with real data and real problems inspires methodological researchers to generate new methods, and gives them a way to evaluate their ideas.
We have world-leading data science research in a wide range of subjects.
Research software engineering
The Research Software Engineering Team works across all three faculties and with a range of external partners including the Alan Turing Institute. They develop high-quality software in collaboration with scientists, engineers and scholars.
Our partnership with the Alan Turing institute
The UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence.
