Text in a Digital Age
Transforming our approach to literary texts.
We often refer to text in a digital age research theme simply as ‘Text’. This theme is a collaboration between humanists and data scientists.
We have developed the Animating Texts Newcastle University (ATNU) project. Text research brings expertise in digital humanities and text encoding (TEI) to our University.
Our text research aims to explore the value of machine learning to the humanities and vice versa.
Work we are undertaking in text in a digital age research includes:
- exploring new ways of visualising literary composition
- working with environmental scientists to create interactive digital sounded books of Renaissance bees to help protect today’s endangered pollinators
- mapping the early history of feminism and its books in 18th-century Europe
- exploring the value of editorial judgement in the age of AI.
