Wellbeing Cafe

Our new Wellbeing Cafe offers a relaxing space for students to enjoy tea, connect with others, and focus on their emotional well-being.

2 October 2024

I am a firm believer that most things can feel better after a cup of tea. What do I mean by this? Well, there’s scientific research showing tea contains mood and energy-boosting properties that make us feel relaxed and energised!

But I think the social effects of tea are far more interesting. Having a cup of tea with a friend, peer or family member allows time to slow down and for us to connect over a shared ritual. It allows us to share exciting news, rant about a hard day, or open up about how we are feeling.

Making and drinking a cup of tea can give us permission to slow down and relax, in a life that can sometimes feel overwhelming. I also like turning tea-making into a mindfulness exercise by engaging all my senses, you can try my favourite one here; https://tavistockandportman.ac.uk/articles/a-mindful-cup-of-tea/

This why the School of Dental Sciences and myself have brought you the Wellbeing Café! It’s a chance for students to slow down and remember to take care of themselves emotionally so they are fit and healthy to weather any storm.

What to expect at a Wellbeing Café

  • An array of teas and coffee
  • Wellbeing books (some are from the Be Well@NCL collection and some from my personal library)
  • Colouring in & colouring pencils
  • Games such as uno, Connect4 and Guess Who!

The Wellbeing Café is in its trial stage and will take place on the 1st of October and 14th of November. If students wish to see more of the Wellbeing Café we will look to secure more funding for future events.

If you would like to talk about your wellbeing, come make an appointment with me, and I will be happy to make you a cup of tea.
