Equality,
Diversity
and Inclusion

The School commits to providing a good working environment for staff and students.

Working to address equality issues

In the School of Dental Sciences we want an inclusive community.   We focus on creating a supportive environment where equality and diversity are valued.

We want our students and staff to be free to achieve their potential without the fear of discrimination.

Recent actions

Recent actions from our EDI Committee include:

  • examining our teaching and course content
  • broadening the diversity of our clinical teaching material
  • reviewing our recruitment activity
  • School pledge to NUSU

There are many aspects that can prevent an individual reaching their full potential. As a School, we are working proactively to address these.

Our EDI Committee members are students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds. They regularly meet to fulfil our commitment to making change.

Silver Athena Swan award

We played a part in the Faculty of Medical Sciences winning a Faculty Silver Athena Swan award.

This recognises our progress towards gender equality. It demonstrates the University has a solid foundation for eliminating gender bias.

We continue to work towards equality in the School and beyond.

Multicultural Events

We continue to build on the success of previous years' multi-cultural events within the School.  These are aimed at celebrating the diversity in our school, its staff and the student groups within the school. This promotes cultural awareness, acceptance and engagement and encourages wider involvement of the student body with the School EDI committee
