A very special event was held to celebrate the life of an exceptional Head of School and Professor of Oral Health Services Research, Jimmy Steele, CBE.

Livestreaming of the inaugural event
On Monday, 31st January, the School of Dental Sciences hosted the inaugural event in the series of ‘Conversations of Steele’. We hope the series will serve as a living memorial for our much-loved former Head of School, Prof Jimmy Steele CBE who passed away in 2017 at the age of 55. Last night’s event focussed on Inequalities in Dentistry – a field of research Jimmy was passionate about.
Over 300 people signed up for the live-stream, demonstrating that many in our community feel as strongly on the subject as did Jimmy.
An annual conversation
We hope that this will become an annual event, with a different focus for each conversation. Next year’s discussion is planned to be around the subject of mental health. We think this is an area that deserves to be explored in the context of dentistry and oral health.
