Graduate Employability
The quality of our degrees, a focus on developing students' employability skills and our reputation with employers means that our graduates are successful in the world of work.
Our reputation
Our record for graduate employment is above the national average. 93.7% of our 2013 UK/EU graduates entered employment or further study within six months of graduating (HESA UK Performance Indicators in Higher Education 2012/13).
Our track record places us in the top 20 of the major university league tables for graduate career prospects. This includes the:
- Times Good University Guide
- Sunday Times University Guide
- Complete University Guide
- Guardian University Guide
Education for life
We encourage students to think about their future early in their studies. We have collaborated with employers to identify a set of skills which are needed in life beyond university. These skills such as business awareness, self awareness and communication, make up our Graduate Skills Framework.
Our award-winning ncl+ initiative brings together activities from across the University. It provides opportunities for students to develop the skills in demand by graduate employers.
The wide range of ways in which we develop the employability of our students was specially commended by the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
Work experience
Around 75 new work experience and part-time jobs are advertised each week on our Careers Service vacancies database. Opportunities include Newcastle Work Experience placements in a local business or getting involved with a range of University events.
Study abroad
The majority of our degrees offer study abroad opportunities. We have almost 200 exchange partners worldwide. The language skills and cultural awareness gained through these experiences are increasingly valued by employers.
