Cropping Images
Cropping Images
This page shows examples of how a single image can be cropped into various image dimensions for use as a masthead, in a grid or in the content area.
Original photo
This is the original photo taken by the photographer.

Masthead image crop
The required size for a masthead image is 1790x700. View our example masthead page.

Safe zones
It's important to think about where the focus of the image is for a masthead. A large area on the left of the image will be obscured by the page title and teaser.
Keep the main focus of the image within the green area. Yellow areas warn that this part of the image will be near the text panel. The main focus should not be in the red area.

Grid image crop
The required size for grid images is 818x428. View our example news grid.

Standard content image crop
The required size for a standard content image is 680x402. View our example of a basic page with images.

How to crop images
We recommend the browser based editing tool Fotor and have a guide to help you crop and resize images (PDF: 254KB). Alternatively you can crop and resize images in Photoshop, available via RAS.
