Community engagement

These organisations help us shape and continually improve our programmes. It ensures our programmes are informed by research and practice. In addition, our strong partnerships ensure we're able to offer quality placement opportunities. These opportunities underpin our students' learning on our professional programmes.
Education partners
North East Teaching Schools Partnership
We currently deliver the full range of National Professional Qualifications (Middle Leadership, Senior Leadership, Headship and Executive Leadership) through our role as a partner in the North East Teaching Schools Partnership (NETSP)
Newcastle University North Leadership Centre
Newcastle University North Leadership Centre (NLC) is part of the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University. The NLC works with schools, colleges and public sector organisations to deliver leadership development programmes.
Speech and language sciences partners
Speech and language therapy services
We work with speech and language therapy (SLT) services to develop research capacity and support research in clinical practice.
North East Speech and Language Therapy Research Network
We're involved with the North East Speech and Language Therapy Research Network. We host the biennial North East Speech and Language Therapy Research Symposium. This symposium celebrates innovative and excellent research conducted with and by speech and language therapists in the region.
Professional communities
We participate in professional communities of practice, speech and language therapists' clinical excellence networks and study groups. These cover specific areas of interest including aphasia, motor speech disorders, developmental language disorder (DLD), speech sound disorder (SSD).
Service users
We work directly with service users. We have strong links with people with aphasia, both through the North East Trust for Aphasia but particularly working with the Aphasia Research User Group (ARUG).
The Speech and Language Therapy Parents website
This website provides opportunities for public, patient involvement (PPI) in research into childhood speech, language communication and swallowing disorders. We offer survey hosting for researchers and speech and language therapists.
Tavistock Trust for Aphasia
We have a long and close association with the Tavistock Trust for Aphasia. They generously support our work with people with aphasia.
