Staff Profile
I completed my clinical MSc in speech and language sciences at UCL before going on to a PhD at Birkbeck college in audio-visual speech perception in children. Language is a multi-modal phenomenon, it is both expressed and understood by ear and by eye (even feeling someone's face can help you understand them!). I continued my interest in audio-visual speech during a post-doctoral position at City Unversity London, where I looked at how children with language impairments use visual cues to speech perception.
After quite enough time in London I moved up to York to take up a position in the Sleep, Langauge and Memory lab at the University of York, where I've been for the last few years. While at York I explored the role that sleep plays in language acquisition over infancy and childhood, particularly for children with developmental disorders of communication.
This semester (Autumn 2020-2021) I will be teaching on Brain & Behaviour I, II, and III. For Brain & Behaviour I I am the module leader and I will teach the the Introduction to Psychology strand; for Brain & Behaviour III I will be teaching the Mental Health strand.
My virtual office hours are 10-12 Tuesday. Please do get in touch via Teams or Zoom. I'm also available throughout the week by appointment.
