Last week's COP26 outputs aimed to limit global temperature rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius since pre-industrial times, with the additional compromise of over 40 countries that agree they will phase out the use of coal.
Such targets require green technologies in all areas of the energy sector, which need to be both effective and affordable.
Specifically, green tecnologies should be implemented across five sections:
- Power
- Road transport
- Steel
- Hydrogen
- Agriculture
Professor Sara Walker, Director of the Centre for Energy, spoke with Adam Boulton in a Sky News interview last week regarding the importance of hydrogen to replace fossil fuels to align with NetZero targets and COP26 outcomes.
In a previous ITV news article earlier this year, Sara explains what hydrogen fuel is and the differences between green hydrogen and blue hydrogen.
Here, Prof. Walker states the importance of the source of hydrogen and how impovements are needed, "around 95% of the hydrogen created in the UK is generated by fossil fuels".
In the video below, Sara explains the potential uses of hydrogen and Adam Boulton enjoying a drive in JCB's newest tractor and RiverSimple's light weight car, both entirely run on hydrogen.
