Description
SafeCap+ uses a whole systems modelling approach. It provides integrated optimum capacity, safety and energy strategies at multiple nodes.
The first SafeCap project (2011-2013) developed the SafeCap modelling toolkit. The toolkit supports formal verification of station and junction safety and assessment of node capacity.
The platform has a rigorous mathematical foundation. It uses continuous-discrete models of train movement and powerful state-of-the-art verification tools. This makes it a suitable stepping stone for addressing future challenges in the UK rail industry. FuTRO (Future Traffic Regulation Optimisation) identified these challenges. FuTRO is an ambitious programme of exploration and innovation defined to implement the UK’s Rail Technical Strategy 2012.
SafeCap+ further developed novel modelling techniques and tools. These support and explore:
- integrated and efficient dynamic capacity
- energy of networks and nodes
At the same time, they ensure whole systems safety.
The project has developed tools and defined frameworks. These allow independent control rules for multiple mixed traffic operation scenarios. We have developed tools to define real-time optimum strategies for traffic flow at nodes. We have identified the impact of energy usage on the performance of real-time optimum strategies for traffic flow at nodes.
