Description
The UKIERI awards support collaboration between UK and Indian research teams. The support is for areas of interest and benefit to both countries. and are part of the biggest ever education initiative between the two countries.
UKIERI awarded over £5 million to teams from over 70 institutions in the UK and India, in six major and 23 standard awards.
The research project develops a scientifically sound and practically applicable methodology. The method assesses Ballast Water Management systems for application onboard vessels and in land-based laboratories.
Project objectives:
- To develop test protocols to assess Biological effectiveness of management systems.
- To provide guidelines on how to conduct such assessment onboard, onshore and at land-based laboratories.
- To develop expertise in mass rearing of indicator species required for biological assessment.
This project will have direct links with other research activities for Ballast Water treatment. These include EC funded project BaWaPla in the School of Engineering, Newcastle University.
