Description

The research investigated the use of aluminium for the construction of large naval ship hulls.

The project provided much needed understanding and methodologies. It focused on the use of aluminium in large ship hull construction.

It investigated the material and strength related properties of aluminium.

The project compared structural analysis methodologies for progressive collapse. It did this at the component level and global level with available experimental data. It referenced to similar steel structures for comparative purposes.

The project developed a new methodology for predicting global hull girder collapse.
