Engaging with stakeholders on metal-on-metal hip joint failures

The project collected and collated stories from patients with failed hip joint replacement. It used them to improve the engineering design of artificial hip joints.

Description

Thousands of the latest designs of hip joint replacements are failing around the world. They cause health problems for the people concerned.

This project brought together experiences of patients, engineers, clinicians and regulators. It documented ‘lessons learnt’ from recent hip joint failures.

Researchers disseminated engineering knowledge with patient-relevance locally and nationally through various events.
