I am researching on a novel cell immobilisation material called biocompsite. The biocomposite encapsulates live, metabolically active microorganism with a polymer coating. The research I am conducting here at Newcastle University is a project sponsored by Northumbrian Water. The main objective is to use our biocomposite to encapsulate phosphate removing mirco-organism for treating wastewater at rural wastewater plant. Currently, the removal and recovery of P is of interest across the water industry to prevent nutrient pollution in watercourses.
