Background
Roger Bird graduated in Civil Engineering at the University of Liverpool before working for six years for two local authorities. After becoming a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Chartered Engineer, he spent eleven years working for an international civil engineering consultancy. During that period he gained a Masters Degree in Urban (Civil) Engineering at South Bank University, graduating with Distinction and taking the annual prize. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation.
Teaching
Roger Bird is a Senior Lecturer whose experience and teaching can be summarised as Safety and Sustainability in Transport Infrastructure. He teaches various aspects of Transport Infrastructure Design, Traffic Engineering, Road Safety and Civil Engineering Design Skills.
As a Chartered Engineer himself, he has a passion for helping students to become professional engineers, developing the necessary career skills. He does this through his teaching, and through leading field trip activities which focus on developing professional skills, teamworking and wider personal development.
Roles and Responsibilities
Deputy Degree Programme Director – Civil Engineering
Chairman of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Boards of Examiners
Senior Tutor
